Welcome to the course Culture and Globalization!

The course runs from week 45 2021 until week 2 2022.

The course is taught in English and is open for international students as well as Cultural Studies program students. Please note that this module ranges from November to January. However, since some of the international students on the module are not able to participate physically after the holidays, the teaching moments are mainly concentrated to the weeks in November and December before Christmas. The module is indeed completed and ends in January—with online teaching moments for the international students.

The course is fairly intensive and deals with qualified literature. It is therefore important to read and prepare oneself during any free time, in-between lectures and seminars. It is also wise to try to get access to the course literature before the first meeting of the module, and start, if possible, to read parts of the literature in advance (preferably from Eriksen’s or Scholte’s books).

Please note that due to the uncertainty surrounding the current Corona pandemic some of the planned campus activities may be transformed to online events. Information about this will in that case be posted on the course page on Canvas.

Gradual return to on-campus teaching this autumn

Students who have been admitted to an on-campus course or programme may need to study both on campus and remotely, due to the coronavirus pandemic. All new programme students will be prioritised for on-campus teaching in the autumn semester of 2021. Karlstad University will implement a gradual return with the ultimate goal of full on-campus teaching from early November.

The Public Health Agency recommendations apply at Karlstad University, too – stay home at the slightest symptom of illness, wash your hands, and maintain proper distance. You will find up-to-date about Covid-19 and how it affects Karlstad University at www.kau.se/en/corona

Your schedule will be published at least two weeks before the course starts, with information about times, rooms, teaching, and exams in your course.
