The primary aim of ENG AT1 is to help you develop your English language communication skills in various areas of science and technology, both short term and long term. The course runs until mid-May and is divided into a series of modules taught via Canvas and fortnightly on-campus meetings scheduled between Thursday 25 January and Thursday 2 May. Absolutely everything you need to know about how to proceed will be posted in Canvas from early January onwards.

There will be no separate exam to sit, but you will be asked to complete and submit a wide range of assignments online for feedback and assessment as the course progresses. In order to get the most out of ENG AT1 you should get hold of the following books by mid-February:

• Alred, G.J. / Brusaw, T.B. / Oliu, W.E. 2015/2019. [The] Handbook of Technical Writing, 11th Edition or later. Bedford / St. Martin’s Press

• Ibbotson, M. 2009. Professional English in Use - Engineering. Cambridge University Press

• A book of your own choice (at least 100 pages of fact or fiction published in English)
