Welcome to Environmental Risk Management (RHG220)!
The course consists of the following two modules:
Module 1 Risks, Complexity and Social-ecological Systems
In this module, you will get an introduction to the environmental risks and the complex causal relations and uncertainties related to those risks. We will discuss how social-ecological systems like soil and water can be affected at local level but can be eventually manifested at a global level. We will particularly focus on the spread of pollutants through those systems, and how they affect ecosystems and organisms, and societies.
Module 2 Risk Management
The module introduces the central concepts related to risk perception, risk management and risk governance. It will introduce different measures and strategies for risk management and explain how current environmental risks are handled at the local level by adhering to the measures at national and international levels. It will enable you to formulate interdisciplinary research questions related to environmental risks and to align the risk management strategies to current societal goals. It will also enable you to critically reflect upon current environmental risks from different stakeholder and disciplinary perspectives.
